A4 sticks in park
2006 A4. The shifter gets stuck and will not shift out of park, but only some of the time. The "place foot on brake pedal" light works, it is lit when not pressing the brake and goes out when I am pressing the brake pedal. I do not know if the brake lights are coming on or not, have not checked since the "foot" light does work. I also don't hear any 'click', but to be honest I do not recall having heard one before this started nor do I notice one when it finally lets me out of park. It has happened 3 times over the last 4 months, but twice today, so it is accelerating. It is not every time I get in/out of the vehicle and it seems to "release" eventually and allow me to shift and drive. Whether the engine/car is "warmed up" does not seem to be a factor either. If anything it seems to shift better when "cold" than if I was driving within the last 20 minutes. Is it a failing solenoid? Would that show up on an OBD scan? How difficult is it to replace that shift lock solenoid? Thanks
I am not parking on a hill/incline. I am not in a cold climate location. (two possible factors I found in my research).
