Default A4 Radio reception

I've an A4 2002 with the Concert CD/Radio (owned from new)
The radio reception has gone from excellent (when new) to virtually zero (last 4 months), I can sometimes get the radio channels but they just disappear when I drive. If I do a search the radio will just keep searching forever and not find a channel unless I drive into a specific area (must be strong signal area)

Could this be the Radio, aerial, amp etc?
The car is now out of warranty so I don't want to take it to Audi for them to charge me and tell me that I have a radio fault.

Have people in the passed had Concert problems or is it mainly the aerial?

Infact WHERE is the aerial located?
I'll maybe buy a cheap aerial for a test.

Not sure about the 2002's but I have a 98 and the antenna is embedded in the rear glass. Did you scrape the rear glass with a razor blade or something? Also, it might not hurt to pull the radio out and double check the antenna connection on the back.

Before you do anything expensive, try cleaning the inside of the rear glass and see if that helps

Its the antenna booster... i think thats what its called

It is located just above the rear window

At the top of the rear window is a trim panel that just pulls down

I suggest pulling gently from the sides then the middle

Yep its the antenna booster. Also know as the diversity box. Pretty common failure, luckily its a do it yourself type thing. Just remove the rear trim piece as mentioned above and then unbolt and remove old one and put new one in.

I have a similar problem with the reception on my 96 A6 wagon. I located the diversity box behind the rear dome light, but where do you get these things besides going to the Audi dealer?

I have a 2002 Audi A4 also, and have developed this problem in the past 2 months. I only seem to have the problem in wet/damp weather. On sunny/dry days the radio works fine as it always has. Does this sound like the same diversity box problem?

The problem started around the same time as my airbag light came on - could be a coincidence, but what are the chances of the two being related if it isn't the diversity box? Just giving you a little more info incase that has anything to do with it.

Obviously if the two arn't related I'll be posting a separate post about the airbag light, but I don't think I'll have much choice but to take it to a garage.

I've just been out and removed this panel, and turned on the radio. Put the radio on a problematic station and unplugged the diversity box. On plugging it back in, the radio worked for about a second as a plugged the cable back in, and I noticed that if I push the right side of the box towards the window the radio station is receievd ok. Maybe a bad connection or something inside...?
