Alright just got a nice 2.8 v6 97a4 quattro, very happy with it.

However on the way home from collecting it i got up to about 130, an the speedo went back to zero an has not worked ever since!

Its been servised an mot'd apparently its a gearbox fault!? It went thru the mot fine, the water temp and oil guages also dont work.

The garage said it would be very costly as the gearbox would have to come out to even look at it,

Has anyone come across this problem?

(VSS) vehicle speed sensorfor the speedo which is located on the gearbox so not a problem with the gearbox and they are bound to tell you the worst case scenario because its big bucks to them,

did they run a diagnostic on the engine and gearbox?? if not how the hell can they make a diagnosis, VAG would be useful at this time and check all your fuses which is what you should have done in the first place
