a4 or evo

RE: a4 or evo
I think a4 or Evo is a legit question.
Evo is 276HP and costs around $20K used at the cheapest. A4 is $8K for a nice condition 99TQM, add $7K in mods/labor to get to GT28 turbo setup and your looking at 350HP for $15K and you get the heated leather seats/6-disc/etc. Spend another grand on coil overs and you will be faster through the tracks too...
So Evo - $20K /// +'s Fast, Looks Awesome /// -'s insurance is HIGH, Real World Gas Mileage usually around 17mpg, interior is cheap, road noise.
A4 - $16K /// +'s Fast, Interior, All Luxuray, better AWD, cheap insurance, 25MPG /// -'s Needs two weeks to get the mods done before its any fun.

RE: a4 or evo
LOL, well how much do you want to spend?
It's going to take a lot for a modded A4 to beat a stock EVO. But the EVO will cost more up front.
If you are going to the track, pick up the EVO, if you want to take the GF out to nice places get the A4.
Mods for mods, the EVO will always be faster, & handle MUCH, much better.
But for daily driving, road trips, and a much nicer interior, get the A4.
As far as what AWD system is better? Well, I must admit with the S4 & EVO having BOTH the SAME tires, the EVO was a lot more stable, starting out, and around corners.
If you decide on the EVO steer clear of the 03's, try to get a 05, they have a front LSD, adjustable center diff, & a bigger turbo.

RE: a4 or evo
Its not as hard to beat an EVO as everyone makes it out to be... It still has a stock quarter mile time in the mid 13's.
EVO RS? Yeah you wont beat it, pretty much ever, but they have no radio, no power windows/locks etc. NOT a good DD.
Regular EVO's which is 95% of the evos you will run into, you can at least match for speed, if not beat, with a GT Turbo setup and coil overs. And you will get all the luxury with that speed, for about $4-5K less, all said and done, then just the upfront price of the EVO alone. I love the evo, i really do, (and STi for that matter) but an A4 modded up to 350hp@crank will beat a 276hp@crank evo.
2000 A4 - Curb Weight (quattro/manual):, 3241 lbs
2003 EVO - Curb Weight (EVO VIII) 3263 lbs

The down side to your argument is most EVO's are not kept stock. With a turbo back & a ECu Flash the EVO's are around 280-310 whp (depending on Dyno) Mine with a Turbo back, & flash does 288whp on a Mustang, on that same dyno my S4 does 268whp
For $1200, I have almost 300whp. How much does the GT kit for for? I think the new FSI 2.0t will be a better match for the EVO, to bad you can't get a AWD A3 2.0t![:'(]

RE: a4 or evo

I agree with you, most are not kept stock, but price wise A4 is better. The used A4's go down to 7-8 grand. Used EVO is like 20 grand. Start modding it and its $21K.
The A4 GT28 Kit is $3300 bucks, complete kit, includes injectors/ECU tune/exhaust mani/turbo/gaskets etc. So if your a DIY guy then your looking at 11-12K for a 350HP A4. If you take it in, you probably need 3 grand for labor so $14-15K complete. Then add $1K for some good coilovers... total $15-16K. Plus MPG is better and insurance is going to be 1/3rd what an evo costs to insure. I was going to go evo till I found out A4 was 400 bucks full coverage for 6 months, and the evo was $1250 for 6mo. I have a clean record and those were the average quotes. You could use that extra money for more mods if you want to get technical.

RE: a4 or evo
not to bash on audi here but you can spend 5k and get 500whp out of an evo and the stock block. it would cost 3-4 times that to get an audi there.
IT ALL COMES DOWN TO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO USE IT FOR. NO ONE CAN TELL YOU WHATS BETTER UNLESS YOU TELL US ITS PURPOSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
