A4 Acceleration problems

A4 Acceleration problems
Whats up Audi world,
My 1996 A4 2.8 5 Speed has recently gone on a power strike. When I start it up, depress the clutch, release the brake and go into 1st gear all I get is a slow, gradual increase in power. When I press down on the gas pedal, it goes all the way down to the floor with little pressure. The same thing happens in 2nd, third, fourth and 5th (no acceleration and weak pedal).
I don't think its the clutch because she tries to gain speed and the tac revs but its like i'm not getting any gas.
I called a mechanic my local Audi dealership and he said (without asking too many questions) that it is my cat converters and that they cost $1,000 each. That sounded a bit high so I thought I'd check the forum for the least to most expensive fixes.
Thanx in advance.

RE: A4 Acceleration problems
New cat's for Audi's are freaking hella expensive. The GIAC dealer in my area does custom exhaust and they have a custom cat, and then the whole cat-back exaust system for $1250. Something you might wanna look into if your going to spend that much money anyway.

wtf?! dont go to the stealership, go to a custom exhaust shop. i recently replaced both of my cats with two magnaflo hi-flo cats each were only 250$ 1k for a cat is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard.

RE: A4 Acceleration problems
Hello AudiForums,
Thanks to all the good feedback and advice I took my A4 too a local VW & Imports repair shop and found out that it was the Throttle Cable (who wouda thunk it). It had become frayed and was jamming in the line from point a to b. They got the cable from the dealer @ $50.00 or so and the total came to $124.00.
So far, so good, (mostly). Right after I picked the car it up, it shut down the first few times I pressed down on the brakes with any firm pressure but stopped doing it after awhile and seems to be doing fine now.
My next challenge will be lower control arms (I was not aware of the recall and mised out) and engine mounts.
Any sage advice out there for a 96 A4 2.8 5 Speed with 200k when doing those jobs ($ for do it your self or paying for it).
Good talking to yall.
