Well I just got back - My laptop was being a bitch, but BOTH versions of VAG 3.11 and 4.09 couldn't communicate with the ECU for whatever reason.

That leads me to thinking it's an ECU issue. Does the ECU have its own fuse? If so where is it? I didn't see it in the drivers inside panel box.

Another strange thing is that the throttle body actuator will flutter a bit when the cars key is on without the engine running.

I manually opened the TB and it still wouldn't start - Fuel PSI was 40.

I removed a coil and tried to see if it would arc when cranking but it didn't - might've been a bad grounding source though.

All of the turbo hoses are connected.

Anymore ideas???

We're short of ideas, but if you can't communicate with the ECU I would guess either the wiring to the ECU, the ECU itself, or the ignition switch.

Vagcom wont communicate unless the ignition is turned on. When you turn the key to the on position, do the usual things happen (eg warning lights come on in dash), etc?.

I;m assuming that you have used this laptop with a vagcom before and that it worked previously? If not, make sure that the computer was using the correct port to connect to the vagcom.

There is a fuse for the ECU, but I can't track it down. If someone has the list of fuses in the main fuse box, I'd check there first. If not, there should be relays in the ECU cover box. Don't know if a fuse is in there too.
