98 2.8L Exhaust Ideas? - Stock Blueprint?
Hey guys. Im new to this site and to my 98 A4 2.8 Quattro. I was wondering if any one had any ideas for an exhaust system that will get me as close a 'bold muscle' exhaust note as possible. Im trying to get as far away from a 'ricer' as possible. I was thinking of a Magnaflow 14816 Muffler with custom tubing or a Remus kit. What do you guys think? And also, if any one has a stock 98 A4 2.8 Quattro exhaust blueprint so i can possibly follow the bends for a custom exhaust.
thanks guys.

Unless you're going to fab the exhaust yourself, just find an exhaust shop with a mandrel bender, and ask them to replicate the fitment of the OEM system, but straighten out as many of the bends as they can to minimize restriction. It probably wouldn't hurt to go somewhat bigger in diameter as well, and be sure to use stainless steel. Those guys at the shop will understand if you explain what you want to do, and they can probably build you something. Otherwise, just get the axle-back setup that most people do for the 2.8 and go with that. If you search YouTube for "Audi A4 exhaust" you'll find a bunch of videos showing the look and sound of various systems that are available off the shelf or can be fabbed by buying pieces here and there.

Magnaflow, vibrant, and remus are all good choices. Add an intake and it'll finally sound like a v6. I have a remus setup and it sounds great. Theres really no need for a diagram, heres a recent thread about someone doing a custom setup, maybe it'll help. click here

magnaflow 14862 is what I had and it sounded amazing. (I'm using the past tense because my car is now totalled). I had just the muffler on stock piping and I thought it sounded perfect. If you want something a bit louder go custom definatly IMO. also my friend has a brullen exhuast, I dont know much about it but it sounds amazing.

ya see...correct me if im wrong but....the 1.8 exhaust goes from one header (V-4) to one single pipe that goes to a mid-muffler and then a single main muffler. the 2.8 goes from 2 headers to a connecting 'Y' tube and then to a single pipe and mid-muffler and then main muffler. I would need to fab-up that Y peice to get the maximum performance boots i want and keep if not increase the magnaflows deep growl. You guys think fab-in up that Y pipe would be do-able and would it give that much better of a flow? cause im trying to replace then entire system from the end of the headers to the tips.

did you just say "v-4"? hmmmmmm

It goes exhaust manifold (what you call headers), cat, Y pipe, mid muffler/resonator, rear muffler. Any exhaust shop would have no problem fabbing up something for pretty cheap. Unless you are a welder, I wouldnt even worry about it. Just get the muffler and make sure its not too big it hangs towards the ground in the back at an angle or is sideways.

lol that super 44 is sick...i was watching Horsepower TV and i was wondering if one of those would be good for my Audi. Maby a little to loud. My friend has a 79 Trans am with flowmasters....if the 400 motor wasnt enuf with the mufflers i can hear him a mile away.
Question...do you NEED a mid-muffler? Because i sawan A4 with a 'mid-muffler delete' with magnaflow muffler and it sounded insane.
In that vid of the super 44 muffler it says that the mid muffler was taken out...i see people doing this and getting great sound.
