97 trip computer?

Default 97 trip computer?
how do i get the two screens on the instrument cluster to work, its a 97 and i believe it should show the outside temp and fuel mileage maybe? anyway, they are just black, what could be wrong?

on the right side of the steering wheel is a wiper stalk. On the underside is a button, push it.

no button, i searched it already, this isnt the autocheck system, its the other one
