Default 6 spd conversion?

OK, first off, if this has already been discussed, please show me where. (I looked and found nothing). Anyhow, my car has 50K miles on it (81000KM) and in the cold, going into 2nd gear is a chore. It can even grind. Even once it's warmed, sometimes it doesnt feel so smooth. Im worried about the syncros... My question is, can a 6 spd out of a B6 or a B5 S4 be used in a B5 a4? Has anybody tried this? I'm very curious, because I wont rebuild this tranny, I'll replace it.

Thanks in advance!
Chris

Yeah I definately wouldnt be terribly concerned... if it were butter when it was warm, but it's not. We used to have a 96 a4 (v6 obviously) and it shifted nicer. My parents have a B6, and although a bastard when cold, it feels a bit nicer. We also have a 2001 Golf 1.8T, and although the tranny never feels as good as any audi's, it doesnt matter if its minus 20 degrees, it shifts the same as always. I want a 6 spd! Oh, I also use redline synthetic tranny fluid (and coolant)), so who knows how it would feel without it!

S4 or A4 are the same. A 1994 or 2001 01e 5 or 6 speed goes into a A4. Only driving shaft lenght change. I was bargaining a 1994 01E 5 speed from an S4 1994 for my A4 1996.
But its trouble tranny on first gear. The gear is to small for a high output engine. it ll brake.
6 speed deef fit there.

then cant u just replace the gears instead of the tranny itself or that pretty much the same thing? also are some of the a4 gears more benificial than the s4 and vis versa? bc i know the straight up b5 platform straight up sucks ***

nope. nobdy makes any tranny replacement gear ratios. the V6 B5 tranny is pretty good. its stronger than the 1.8 and it has a more aggressive gear ratio

6 forward gears is the most amazing thing in the world. My z28 cruises at 70 mph at like 1700 rpm. Gas mileage is amazing, in a 5.7L 16 valve V8. Will a B5 S4 tranny work on a 1.8T? Anybody actually done it, or has seen it done?
