5 speed to 6 speed conversion?

5 speed to 6 speed conversion?
Apparently there was a 6 speed option for the 02 A4 or at least the B6, right? Okay so assuming that is true has anyone ever tried a 5speed to 6 speed conversion? It seems like it would be pretty straight forward, but you never know till you ask. Are the bell housings the same? I assume because of the quatrro there is a custome tail housing? I've just ordered a bentley manual so hopefully that will shed some light. But I wanted to see if there was any first hand information on this board.
I haven't owned a 4 banger 15 or so years. I've never owned a european/import vehicle ever. So maybe this is common place, but it seems wierd that my car is geared so close. It almost feels like I don't have an over drive in this car. I'm taching 3K RPMs to maintain ~62 mph. That seems awfully high to me. Is this normal for the 5 speeds? Are the 6 speeds better?
Can you put gears in these cars? In other words, like in a RWD V8, we can throw some gears in the rear end and totally change all the effective gear ratios. I'm wondering if So if my gearing is normal now then maybe I could get some lower gearings for the front and rear differeniatals and get a more efficient highway(5th) gear. Or maybe if my high taching 5th gear is abnormally high then maybe the previous owner already had more aggressive gears put in?
Any help would be appreciated.
Mike

RE: 5 speed to 6 speed conversion?
Wow I'm surprised no answers discussion as of yet. Has this just never been tried before or is it just not a lot of people have tried it and maybe those people aren't reading my thread? Do you guys know if this has even been attempted before? Do you know the results? Did they even make a 6 speed option in the 02s? Maybe other B6 models? Or did the 6speed come out with the B7?
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: 5 speed to 6 speed conversion?
The 6-speed has been around since '00 I know for the S4, later in the 3.0, but I'm not sure when the 6-speed 1.8t came out, but I Know they are out there. I think I read that the 5th gear can be changed in in them (not them, but in the 5 speed) so you're not at such a high RPM for highway driving, I just have no idea where I found it
