4000 RPM @ 80 MPH... Is this right?
I feel like my car is struggling everyday to work and back. I have a 2002 Quattro 1.8T with a 5-speed. Basically I go 80 for about 10 miles and the darn engine screams at 4000 rpm... Are these cars designed to run at high RPM's? I used to have a VW Golf back in the day, and if I recall that thing ran at high RPM's so maybe it's the german engineering?
It bothers me that it runs so high when any other car is at 2-3k. I feel like I'm beating on it. I've officially found something I don't like about my new Audi.
Can anyone enlighten me with what is happening? How can this car possibly keep up on the Auto bon?
Don't get me wrong I love the car, but who in the hell decided on the crappy gearing for this thing. FYI-- I have the 5-speed (should have been a 6-speed for 2002...come on Audi get with it).

are u sure ur putting it in 5th gear? not tryn to be a dick but my car on the highway deff dose not hit 4000 rpms at 80, it is tipron but still has 5 speeds and rolls at that speed at a much lower rpm.

80 in 2nd gear....don't think so. I just hope this engine is designed to run at high RPM. Maybe I'll call the Audi dealership and chat with them as well.
I bet the other 5-speeders will know exactly what I'm talking about. Dumb question, but is there different gearing in the sport vs. the standard? I have the sport.

Unless you have a slipping clutch its probably normal. The only thing I can think of that would change it is the size of your wheels/tires. If they're bigger or smaller then stock then your revs would be right but your speed is wrong.
