260 miles per tank
I am getting about240 to 260 miles per tank in my a4 1.8tq 5mt. this seems low, lower than i used to get. i bought the car with 37K on it about 7 months ago, now its at 41100K and im getting said mileage. BTW, i always full up with 93oct, and use royal purple 5w-15 i believe, cant remember. this is all city driving, short distances, from home to school, to food, to the gym, ect, never more than about 25 or 30 minutes at a time. the weather is HOTTTT and HUMID, and audi thermostat says its 99-101* during the day, dont know how accurate that is but it means its hot as hell. if this is not on par should plugs be next? the car stumbles the slightlest little bit when its started so i think it almost needs them anyways, hopefully its not coilpacks cause i dont even know what those are yet, ha. i also fill up about 15 or 16 gallons per fill up.

RE: 260 miles per tank
Plugs should be changed at 40K mi. Also get an air and cabin filter.
You should stock up on oil filters Mann W94025.
Use Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec, and you'll save $$$.
For a turbo-engine you want 40 weight in the viscosity.

RE: 260 miles per tank
Not trying to make you feel bad, but I think that sucks! You should take the car on a long road trip, drive only on the highway and run a whole tank of gas and see what you get. I have been averaging about 31 mpg and I'm 80-90 percent highway driving, or about 420 mile to a tank. If you get anywhere near that driving only on the highway then you need to change your driving habits intown- there's probably nothing wrong with the car. If you dont' come close to that (say only 300 mile per tank) then your car needs to be check. Milage usually does suffer in the summer because the air is not as dense, but 16 mpg is just not right.

260 sounds not right. any cell or anything ? how about vag around your town ? maybe there are some codes you already have which does not cause the cel on.
i could start with new set of plugs, air filter, and maf cleaning. these are the cheapest solution. and make sure you have no leak in the system

RE: 260 miles per tank
I replaced the plugs today and pulled the airfilter and it was nasty. there was sand and dirt sitting in the bottom of the air box, and in the elbow that runs from the inlet from the grill to the air box itself. Too bad i could not find a new filter, i went to 4 different auto part stores and had to 2 day ship one for an extra buck. hopefully this will help.
