Exclamation 2008 A4 Transmission Problems

Hi Guys!

I have a 2008 A4 S Line with 60k Miles, and i was just told i need to replace my transmission due to leaking of transmission fluid, and has a crack on the casing.

Long story short, I purchased my car about 6 months ago at an auction not knowing its history (Huge mistake, lesson learned). Took in for a diagnostic after experiencing a violent jolt when parallel parking, and occasional jerking when going uphill at speeds between 60-80 mph. Other than that, car works perfect and reverses fine if i'm just putting in on reverse once and then taking off. And jerking seems to go away if i just step on it a little harder.

Car is in perfect condition, no scratches or dents. Same with interior. Very clean! I also just purchased new Pirelli tires.

Some questions:

1. Do i really need to replace the transmission ASAP?
2. Where do you recommend i look for a rebuilt transmission?
3. If i sell, how much is it worth.
4. Do i have a chance as trade in for a new Audi?

Please help this girl out!

Thanks!

I would think it needs to be replaced soon. If that crack grows or cometely breaks off you could cause additional damage to the driveline. I would take it to another shop for a second opinion (I have not heard of Audi's getting cracked cases, but who knows what might have caused it).

2. AAMCO is always a good place to start. Doesn't hurt to call around to other shops after you confirm it needs replacing just to compare costs (not going to be cheap I bet).

3. Book on a 2008 is around $10k to 12K (I think). That is if you try and slide the problem past the buyer. This could come back to bite you if they find out and I recommend not doing it.

4. Dealer will take anything on trade. They most liekly will find the problem, but unlike in point #3 I wouldn't be as quick to point it out. There is the possiblity that the dealer can run the VIN and see it just went through an auction which might give them a reason to inspect it closer. New Audi's run $40k+.

I would also add that if you end up replacing the trans I would have them replace the torque converter. Our cars are known to develope a surging issue caused by the converter. Replace it with the trans will save you possible additional costs later.

Good luck.
