2006 A4 Versus Jetta
Hi all. This is my first post on this board. I am currently in the market for a car about the size and type as the A4. I noticed that the new Jetta is of almost the same dimensions all around. Do the A4 and 06 Jetta share the same platform? I know they share the powertrain (2.0t) non-quatro. I drove the Jetta GLI and didn't love it. I may drive the A4 today. BTW, I'm cross-shopping the Saab 9-3, TSX and 325i. Thanks.

Those are all nice cars.. Your gunna get a very biased oppinion from people around here just because we all LOVE our A4's.. I dont know about the jetta and a4 sharing the same platform, or chasis if thats what you mean... Heres how Id classify those cars by prefference...
1.A4
2.TSX
3.Jetta
4.325i
5.Saab..Ew...
Welcome to the forums, and deffinately drive the A4 today.. The A4 and Jetta are going to have the most potential for mods and to play with, but id take the TSX because of looks over the jetta, everyone has a bmw 325 and I think GM makes Saab now, and their interiors are ugly in my oppinion.

don't go with the saab, they break down alot and to find someone to work on it will suck, i drove the new 325i, (loaner car from audi) and it felt like a tin can, when you close the doors it was nothing, when you close the doors on the audi it's solid, but hte ride wasn't good in the 325 either, it had 4,000 miles on it, like the way they look but would never buy one, i like the new jetta no prob with vw.

Very true about this being a biased place to ask. I'm so biased I don't even know what a TSX is?
The Jetta is probably a decent car, but it's not an Audi - especially in how the car is viewed by others - if that matters.
I had a '99 BMW 323 convertible (E 36), sport package. Gorgeous car, real eye turner, just not quite an AUDI. Small quality problems (not drive train), ugly dash, fit-finish on the interior.
Saab, I don't know. Used to be good. Careful of "American car making" influences.
Born from jets??? First jet = Messerschmidt ME 109 w/ BMW jet engine!!! (German Engineering in da house!!)
Go Audi A4, all the way. Or even an A3. Just make sure you buy one with a MANUAL Transmission otherwise you'll miss half the fun!

Wow, I thought I'd get a definitive answer by now. I am trying to find out, are the '06 Jetta and A4 built on the same platform? I know the old Passat and A4 were on the same platform but, not anymore. What's the deal now. Does anybody have any info?
