RE: 2003 A4 1.8 liter engine Fuel Pump Recall
Question is: Does Audi now replace it with one that actually lasts longer than 45k miles?
Question to the veterans with software and injector upgrades - Is there an aftermarket fuel pump upgrade anyone would recommend?

RE: 2003 A4 1.8 liter engine Fuel Pump Recall
My 2003 A4 1.8T just had it's 40K. Now with about 1K into it, car is running perfectly, car just died while going about 80 on highway. Would not restart, but tried to after sitting for a couple minutes. I bought it as a certified from a dealership in May.
All signs point to a fuel cut-off problem of some sort. It was towed to the dealer last night (a Friday, so nothing will happen until Monday).
What are the chances of it being the fuel pump problem? Will report back on Monday with dealer answer.

Toaster,
If you still have the paperwork about your repair, all you have to do is to submit a claim form to VW/Audi with a copy of your paperwork showing them that your fuel pump was fixed somewhere else (other than a VW/Audi dealership), and the will refund you $ which you paid... only if the problem fell under a recall. In this case, it sounds like Toaster's fuel pump failed under recall. Claim forms can be found at your nearest VW/Audi dealer.

RE: 2003 A4 1.8 liter engine Fuel Pump Recall- Be afraid!
Here's the scoop on my car's problem. The fuel pump gave out.
Here's the concerning part:
According to my dealer (I'm in So Cal), my car was one of the affected and the pump had been changed out (by a dealer, prior to me buying it) as part of the recall.
BUT THEY REPLACED THE PUMP WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE MODEL.
Go figure.
I'd say, that if you need to take your car in, make sure they use the new one.
