2003 A4 1.8 Engine Noise
Question will be kinda vague, but I have some rattling at low rmp when car is first started. Once idle kicks down (after one minute or so, when 'warmed up', it goes away. It sounds like it's coming from engine (2003 A4 1.8) at "back", near firewall, perhaps a hose is loose and kicking out air, or maybe it's even mechanical. The engine makes the noise no matter if the climate system is on or off.
Again, kinda vague, but trying to learn to repair this myself and not finding anything in manuals I have. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks, Kevin.

RE: 2003 A4 1.8 Engine Noise
Thanks, Dave. I have some Valvoline oil in there right now, synthetic. I usually use Mobil 1 and didnt last time, store was out. Vibrations seem louder with this other oil, but since bought this (2003) car in May, it seems to be getting louder. I will definitely check out/change oil back to what I was using, see if oil up into engine quicker helps reduce rattlign. Thanks.

RE: 2003 A4 1.8 Engine Noise
can you give us more info?
Have you listened with the hood up to pinpoint the noise?
Sounds like lifter tick, but not sure. Almost sounds like you have a rattle at certain rpm that goes away when the rpm changes.
