Default 2002 Sunroof evil-possession

Hi everyone, first time, long time!

I just bought a 2002 A4 3.0 with 21K miles on it. The car is perfect, not a scratch or a rip. One issuse though:

The sunroof is evil. I push up the 'cresent moon' button to raise the back of the roof and it goes up fine, but it will randomly close on its own. Sometimes immediately or maybe 10 minutes later. SometimesI have to open it 5 times before it stays open, and then it will close when it feels like it.

Can this have something to do with climate control automatically closing it and I just missed that? I just found out I have a 'low brake pad' sensor so something like this would not surprise me.

The sunroof slides open and close just fine, it is the raising part that is evil. Also, when it closes on its own I do hear the motor going so it isnt just 'falling' closed.

Thanks guys!
Mike

You had the exact problem?
Is this an easy 'do it yourself' fix?

The problem in the article is the complete opposite of what mine is doing, do you think it is still worth trying?

yes this is a common problem, i have the same issue with my 2002 a4. this fix should fix yours also. truthfully i would try this "cheap" fix before i even consider a $$$$motor$$$$. just my 2 cents from a guy who's warranty ran out too.

LOL...I had the same evilness in my sunroof. Easy fix. Took the switch down and cleaned the contacts. The spooky ghosts left.

deffinately clean the contacts before replacing the sunroof mototr. the motor is $501.00
mine does the same thing and i just havent gotten off my *** yet to fix it, i just put up with it randomly opening at any given time and closing. no biggie. just a change in cabin noise and pressure.
andyes.... all passengers in complete agreement that its possessed.
what makesit even more funny that like 2 weeks ago this happened to me while i had someone in the front seat, and right before the sunroof opened and closed itself, the dash cupholder came out all by itself, opened right up.
