The 3.0 is a better buy with less miles and better options/resale value. It's up to you if you want to mod the car a bit. Obviously you can mod the 1.8 quite a bit more than the 3.0, but the 3.0 has 220hp stock...

That 1.8t sounds pretty good. The gas milage can be good and bad though. My best highway milage is 26-27 and I average around 19-20 (mostly city). You'll definitely like it for getting up to the mountains. I take mine up to Stevens Pass and have no problems getting around (except when I'm plowing snow with my ride height).
you need to chip your car, im right around 30 mpg on the highway.

Awesome. Well yea, I'm definately keeping gas mileage in mind as im switching from a 9-14mpg vehicle. I definately want something with less miles, but 66K is about my cap. I will be living in Bellingham next year. As far as gas prices may go up ($5 a gallon...hopefully not) I want to make sure I am not stuck with the 3.0L, so I will most likely be gonig for the 1.8T.

BTW, anyone wanna buy an 04' Land Rover Discovery SE????
Already have a few potential buyers, just thought I'd ask.

Hi

Unless you are going to be a Taxi driver or a commercial driver (8 hrs per day) the difference in gasis meaningless.
Sit down with an adding machine and go wild.
If the difference is too great for your pocketbook then get a Honda, it will be cheaper, hold it's value better,
cheaper to buy parts for and to fix and to top it off probably faster (non modded).

Alan, thanks for being a douche! Obviously I don't care that much, I was just asking how different the mileage will be and the comparison between the engines. As far as performance and mods go it looks like you guys are saying the 1.8T is the best, but the 3.0L also has it's niceness.

I'm not looking into too much modding, maybe exhaust and that's about it. I'm really torn here...

That's a pretty good looking 1.8t. Looks like it even has the sport package (sits a lot lower than the stock setting). I always see a few gems come up on the seattle craigslist, so if you're not in a rush, you may even find a newer one for the same price or cheaper.
