2002 1.8T vs. 3.0L
I'm in the market to downsize from my 2004 Land Rover Discovery SE, and going into an A4.
I found two that I am interested in...
1- 02' A4 1.8T Quattro w/66k miles. 5 speed manual. Red. ($14.5k)
2- 02' A4 3.0L Quattro w/62k miles. 6 speed manual. Dolphin Grey. ($14k)
In concern with gas mileage and all that jazz, which is favorable? Both have most of the same options, premium ones. I go up to the mountain alot (MT. BAKER, BEST SNOW IN THE USA!), so if that changes anything. Also, engine maintenance, upgrades, mods, all that shizzle. Thanks holmes!

RE: 2002 1.8T vs. 3.0L
02 1.8t and get a APR, GIAC or REVo 1+ flash with bigger injectors... faster than the 3.0 and better mileage... (i get about 28-30 mpg on the highway running 80mph (and mine MPG is corrected via vagcom) its pretty close via the math
although it has a 5-speed i dont know how much that will affect mileage.....
i had a 3.0 race me on the interstate yesterday and i put him down with ease.. i have apr 1+ with full exhaust and test pipe, racetec FMIC
lastly, i would wait and keep an eye out for an ultrasport, you could probably pick one up for $18k and it will have a sixspeed and look sexy! check my gallery pics
also there has been a few 3.0's die a strange death, seems tp be in the 70-100k range www.audizine.com has a thread entitled death of a 3.0
1.8T's will need full syn oil every 5k with big filter, if the owner of that 02 1.8t cant provide proof of that (although i cant either but mine gets it), might consider staying away, sludge is a bitch....

Yea I am leaning twoards the 1.8T anyways. He said he does Synthetic every 3k miles. Also comes with the Audi legit ski rack (how much do they run?) which will be good.
Do you guys think $14.5K is deec for it?
65,000 miles
5-speed manual
All wheel drive
Tan leather interior (in GREAT shape)
Sunroof
6-disc changer
Bose Sound system
Dual air system
Heated seats (all four)
Audi Ski Rack
50,000 mile service done (approx 2K value)
Have only used premium gas and synthetic oil (every 3K miles)
new air filter, cabin filter, etc.
Tires just over a year old.

Hi
I just went through this, if you are going to look for performance then the 1.8t is the ticket (if you mod it)but if you are going to be driving on highways then l would go with the 3.0.
The only real way to answer your question is for you to drive them both and decide for yourself. The price's that you are quoting are high but if you see something you like and it checks out buy it.
I would also buy the lowest mileage vehicle that you can afford but keep in mind the yearly service can be pricey if you have to do it yourself. As far as the gas mileage the difference at the end of year is not that great, just sit down and figure it out.
There is nothing like a V8 torque curve

That 1.8t sounds pretty good. The gas milage can be good and bad though. My best highway milage is 26-27 and I average around 19-20 (mostly city). You'll definitely like it for getting up to the mountains. I take mine up to Stevens Pass and have no problems getting around (except when I'm plowing snow with my ride height).
