2001 Audi A4 as my first car?
it's got 71k miles, in very good condition, I test drove it, and it ran great! the handling was great, and I liked the fact you could switch from auto to manual. It's the 1.8 L turbo engine model, although its fwd version not the quattro. Its priced at $6200. My only concern is the cost of maintenance,I know european cars are slightly expensive to maintain (like for oil change and I would probably have to fill it with premium), but this looks like such a good deal to me. Your opinion would be much appreciated. Thanks.

As a first car, it really comes down to how much money you have to invest in it, they are good looking , loads fun to drive, and are also very safe and stable on the road. With that said all this performace comes at a price, you have to think about the maintance costs, this car still has a little while to go in terms of mileage before a timing belt is needed, but when it does come your gonna need between 700-1200 to get it replaced. If you have the money to keep up with preventive maintance or are mechanically enclined , and are good about not procrastinating the little things, than it is a great car and it will serve you . However if you live a busy lifestyle and don't really have a steady income, then you might be safer with a japanese car.
to give you an estimate on maintance costs, i have a 2001 a4 quattro manual 1.8 with 120k, and i am about 800 dollars in repairs this year, 160 dollars of that is for synthetic oil changes every 2500 miles, the rest was for misc repairs, tie rods, o2 sensors catylytic converter, turbo hoses ect...
bottom line great car for those who have the means to keep it great condition
