Default 2001 Audi a4

I'm a really really huge fan of Audi. I've looked into purchasing a certified-pre owned one and found it. Its a 2001 Audi a4 1.8T. My question was that is the car reliable for at least 5 years??? I plan to keep this car for a while because Im just about to enter collage and I've got to get a car that will be reliable, Since i'm gettin rid of my Ford. many people keep telling me that the german parts are really really expensive. Money isn't a real major issue, but it is a issue none the less. The audi dealer gives me a warranty 3 years or 100,000 Miles on it. The audi has 50k Miles on it right now. Someone please help me with some specifics On the reliability year wise. I've read numerous posts on the forums about the standard stuff...oil changes, ect ect and im going to be taking EXCELLENT care of my car. i will be able to do some DIY's since im currently enrolled in an Auto-Mechanic Shop. but yeah, any feedback is welcome and i thank you.

and also for those of you who have warrantys with Audi, is it true that messing with the eletronics will void your warranty?? b/c the guy thats trying to sell me the car said i need to install their alarm (i want to install a Viper alarm system) and if i try to take it to someone that i will void my warranty. I haven't purchased the car yet, he was just showing me my options.

ps. Im not gonna be doing any modding really, Only some window tints, new rims/tires and maybe a drop.

timing belt will need to be done around 60k a little under 1g unless you do it yourself. Should be a good care and it will be expensive to fix and parts might take a little harder to get (unlike your ford)

Should be a good car Hope you enjoy if you do end up buying

How often will i need to fix it??? I won't really be using the car to run around alot, im not going to be that far away from my school, maybe like 20 minutes at most. And that doesn't start for another year or so. The only time i will really be using it is during the weekends and when i have to go to the gym.

If you buy an Audi (be it an A4, A6, A8..etc) you will want to drive it more and more, so don't plan on just driving it a couple days a week. Gas for the car is expensive, but well worth it. The timing belt will cost about a grand, I would also change all fluids.

Well, the tank is like 16.7 Gallons i think, don't quote me. It takes premium Gas so that would be around $32 to fill up the tank. sorry for all the questions but i just don't want to get screwed out of my $17,000

$17 grand for an'01 A4 with 50k miles is alot. I paid just under $15000 for my '01 A4 with 50k miles a year and a half ago. Try to negioatate the price down.

i'd be surprised if that was truly the case....
every dealer can have their own policies to some extent.. but thats an extreme..
if i were you i'd call a few Audi dealerships in your area, ask direcly for service, and tell the service mngr. that you plan on getting an alrm installed, "will it void my warrenty" , dont tell them "someone else told me it would", just let them give you an answer.. if it's the answer you want to hear, ask for their name, say thank you and hang up
chances are, this salesman gets an extra $100 if he sells you the lo-jack too...

BTW, I paid 20K even for my '01 with 28K miles on it and the sport pkge (see pic) almost a year ago
