Hey I just wanted to introduce myself. Im a new member here transferring over from honda-tech.com. I just sold my 2001 integra GSR and in the process of picking up a 2001 A4 1.8t.

I'd also like to ask you guys a few things.

1) Does the 2001 come with halogen projectors or HID projectors? If they are Halogen projectors do they make after market HID bulbs for the car and how much?

2) How much stock psi does turbo put out? What is the highest amount of psi the motor handle without work having to be done (rods sleaves pistons ect..) This isn't the same motor that is on the 1.8t jetta right? I hope not.

3) How strong is the A4 1.8t tranny? Can it handle any type of after market upgrades such as a bigger turbo? I know for sure it can't take a beating like the GSR tranny.

I also have a 2001 a4 1.8t
it comes with HIDs as an option dont know if you have them
i think the stock boost for the turbo is about 7-9 PSI
i ran 17 psi on the stock turbo before i blew it. but the engine was fine
i dont know about the tranny

Make sure you buy a 5-speed if you are going to go towards the tuning way because the automatic transsmision is not going to hold to much power.

 

Theres guys on here running like high 20's in PSI on stock internals. The 1.8 is is rough and tough engine. Good luck and welcome...

 

yes, i believe that the Jetta and the a41.8 both share the same engine.

 

Thats good to hear, because I definitely plan on upgrading the turbo and intercooler.

 

I have a 2000 which is the same car.

Most of the 2000 and 2001 cars dont have HID lights (Its a reletavly rare option) they have halogen. If the seller didnt advertise that your car had HID's then i would bet it doesnt. My car does not but actually last night in fact i bought a HID kit off of ebay for 240 including shipping(http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=36476). It is plug n play to hook these systems up so i said what the hell. I will let you know how it goes and try to take some pics once i get it and install it.

As for boost I run 22psi and i run my car as a daily driver. You will see chipped people run anywhere from 16 to around 25. Anything over 25 would probably work but i wouldnt do it. Stock you will be around 7 to 9 psi.

As for a auto trany i dont know (5Speed here) If you are talking about the 5speed then you can handle most anything up to a k04 turbo upgrade anything beyond that i think you would have to do some upgrades.

As for the internals you should be good. The 1.8t is a mean engine. You will have alot of fun in the next year or so, but you will also have no money because that dam modding bug will rip you apart here in the near future!
