Not sure if it could be the same thing, but my old 2.8 had a chip in the first gear causing a very annoying noise. From inside, it almost sounded like a bad cv joint except really loud. The sound did seem to go away in high rpms though. The car ended up getting totaled before I could fix it. Good luck!

Shouldnt you go to a dentist instead of a mechanic for chipped teeth. Id have to agree thou. Theres probably something wrong with the first gear gearset.

Sorry to rain on your paraide but the only thing your mechanic is gonna be about to say is, Yeah, its making a noise and we will have to tear it apart to see what it is. If you can live with it, do Its a very expensive propositions. I got suckered into "looking" at mine and ended up costing me $1800 to put it back together. Its fixed now but I would have put that towards a newer car.

My previous post didn't make it. You probably have a worn gear and are looking at having to rebuild the tranny. I'd suggest draining the gear box and putting in new gear oil. This may help delay the inevitible, especially if you have lots or shavings which you are sure to have.
