1998 A4 2.8. Things to look out for
Hello Folks, new to the forum here.
I am looking to buy one with 108000 miles on it, stick shift (love it!).
1. Apart from the TB, what other parts do I need to worry about at this mileage?
2. Also, what key maintenance need I be concerned about in the cars past life.
3. What engine mods are available to safely increase torque and HP without compromising engine reliability?
Thanking everyone in advance for your kind input.

1. control arms, tie-rod ends, brakes, cv joint, wheel bearings all things to look at.
2. Records of what has been done are always a huge plus. Basically, make sure normal maintencance schedule was followed.
3. For the 2.8, almost none, short of a supercharger. There are threads about this at the top of the forum.
Good luck! Paying $100 or so for a dealer to look it over, has saved many people here big$$ and given many others peace of mind with regards to their purchase. It's a very wise investment.

I agree with acetrebo. I wish I would have brought my car to the dealer for a glance over...or at least been as smart as you and know to come to a forum like this. I got my a4 at 88 thousandish and at 99 thousand, the TB broke. You definitley do not want that happening to you. I need to take out a loan just to get it fixed.

the V6s are actually pretty sturdy and reliable other than fluid changes ( oil, tranny, coolant) its imperative you change the T-belt along with the water pump, tensioer and anything else connected to the belt, as well as the sepintine belt. wheel bearing eventually go, front control arms, and cv joint. that said it should run like a new car. snub mounts and tranny mount eventually come along since alot of the guys was more perfomance over the rubber mounts.

Acetrebo, less_of_me, sAUDI, thanks so much for the input!
It is the second owner selling the car, he has records for the last two years from an Audi dealer.
What is the mileage when all those things (TB/water pump, control arms, TR ends, cv joints wheel bearings, snub mounts, tranny mounts, engine mounts) need to be replaced? And what is the life of these parts once replaced? At around 108000 miles should these items have been already replaced?
Acetrebo, I will definitely take it to an Audi dealer if proof of above work is not available.
Also, what is reasonable price to pay for this car?
All the best and thanks once again!

SPRINTUSER.....
listen to me, i have gone through two 2.8's and know more about them than anyone on this dam site. Just drive the car, take it over speed bumps, check and listen for any squeeks or cracks when you go over speed bumps. Do it a good 6 or 7 times to make sure you dont miss anything. Other than the control arms and wheel bearings there is really nothing to worry about on a 2.8.
The 2.8 is audi's more "luxirous" version of the A4, therefore they had to make the motor and tranny reliable. There is a reason the 1.8 guys cream over having a 2.8 tranny...
gtg, im faded.
