1997 oil change (AS WE SPEAK!), HELP
Hey all, i just want to make sure, because i do not have any manuals that I will be unfastening the correct bolt. I was able to remove the skid plate and came across something that looks like an oil pan with a bolt to the right when looking at the car straight on. is this the right one?
also, is this bolt supposed to be super tight? 17mm, right?
Thanks,
Fritz

If you have an automatic, it is the further front of the two.
Ifyou have a manual, it should be pretty self evident.
No the bolt shouldn't be screwed on too tight unless the previous place really did a number on it.

Vice grips? Not to lecture, but you should have used a box wrench. If that didn't let you give it enough torque, you should have used a rubber mallet to tap it out of place.
Try a small-ish sized monkey wrench, but buy a new drain plug before you drain your oil. The monkey wrench is going to rip up the bolt head even more, but its teeth should have enough bite to at least loosen the bolt. If that doesn't work, I'm pretty sure sears has a new tool out that works on bolt heads just like this. I don't know much about it, I just saw a commercial.
If nothing works, you can always go to an oil change place and let them change your oil. If they 'screw it up', they should pay out.

there is a tool that looks like a regular socket but the corners on the inside is spiral and sharp. get one of these and bang it on then use the biggest ratchet u have to get it off. and never use vice grips on any part of a car.
