The timing belt should be replaced at the 70-80,000 mile service.

They might have meant to say it should be changed a second time at 120,000 miles but either way they sound pretty clueless.

Well I believe Audi claims there timing belts last till 100k-120k but in reality they are known to snap after 60k which is why its highly recommended that you replace it 60k-80k (TOPS) because if it snaps you are fuckkked. People on these forums have posted reports of going till 100k with the same timing belt, and others have posted reports of it snapping at 70k. So don't risk it... just do the matnience at 60k or 70k and give the car a better future

Check this out from Bently
http://www.bentleypublishers.com/ima...ance.sched.pdf

it says replace the TB at 120k on the 2001 1.8t - WOW!! I would stop driving and get that done ASAP that has to be gettin close to goin out - I know 01's have the upgraded kit but I wouldn't trust it that long.

Yea, 120k is risking it. I just changed mine at 100k, and I only waited that long because I was still under warranty, and if it would have breaked, my dealer would have covered it.

Wow, 120k?! At least the Audi dealership in Flemington, NJ said "Why risk it? We suggest doing it at 90k". I'm doing it at 70k...
