L5 is not older than an L7. That's like saying an A4 is older than an A6. You can buy an 05 L5 or an 05 L7. Both subs are current models and the differences are in the power handling and frequency responses. Yes the L7 performs better but it's not any newer, and it requires another 150 watts RMS power. Personally, the single L5 boxes I've heard sound pretty good, and the L7s even better. I think you made a good purchase on the L5 myself.

1st, the L5 isn't new. It's the second to latest model, the L7 is the new one. that said, i think the L5 is actually a better sub that requires less power, so you picked well for being undereducated.... totally NO offense. It's a SICK sub if you're goin for spl (Sound Pressure Level), and a GOOD one if you're for SQL (Sound Quality). It's kicker so it's name stands true, just make sure it's not underpowered or else it wont be at it's peak (duh). I got a 10" L5 sittin right here beside me actually thats getting fiberglassed into my spare tire well tomorrow.
Thanx you Initial D. I was just about to comment on the whole New being a higher model concept...So please next time get your facts correct before you begin to call someone else undereducated...But besides that Kickers are great...I had the L7 and they really Kick Hence the name...Only problem that I ran into was that with my box Really LOW tones were a problem...Depending on what kind of music you are listening to they might not do justice at very low Hz...But thats if your listening to Lil john all day...For all the other tones though...Prepare to blow your friends Two 12" subs out the water...However if you do listen to Lil john though i'd suggest a larger box...The single box that is made for the Solobaric is small and limits air space for those low tones...get the larger kicker box...you have room for it...Tell us how it turns out...

I used to own a Jeep and was strictly about audio. I owned (at different times obviously) 2 JL W3 12s, 1 JL W7 12, 1 Kicker L7 10, and 2 Alpine Type R 12s. By far the worst of the 4 was the Kicker. I didn't expect it to be as loud because it's only one sub but the SQ was terrible, very muddy!!! I had it in a slot-ported box (built by Kicker's recomendations). The W7 was amazing!!! If and only if it's in an H.O. Box. The 12 W3s were incredibly clean but so were the Alpines (both were in sealed boxes). Anyway, Kicker's "L" series are good for SPL but not for SQ. It'll be in your trunk anyway so it won't really matter.

Hmm, my W7 is in the HO box, but a guy I know has two 12w7's, in a regular box, and it pretty bloody impresive.

IMO, I think W3's are better than Type R's... my girlfriend has a type R in her little civic, the type R was leftover from a project I scrapped, when I heard a W7.

I had planned on using three 10" type R's... but, my single 10w7 is louder, and cleaner than three type R's would have been. Insane.

Alpines new type X is serious though...

check it out, it's pretty crazy. big magnet:

I have a 10w7 in a sealed box. I love it. I also have a 13w7 w/an enclosure and JL 1000/1 waiting to be used. Damn thing won't fit in the trunk.
