1.8T auto trans plus some other questions
Hello all, I introduced myself in my first post and after doing some research I have a few questions. Looking into a few 2000 A4's some manual and some auto/tip. If I can find a manual then this question will be irrelevant. However, if I do end up with an auto, how much can they take before they start to have problems? I'm looking into going with something along the lines of the ATP GT28RS kit with the fuel management and be done for performance, well probably a downpipe and intake. How will the stock auto take this? Can I buy a shift kit to help the auto trans shift more precisely or does the tipchip do this electronically? Looking for a clean car that has a little more power since these cars are a bit underpowered in my opinion from the factory. Honestly, I would be satisfied with 300hp, but I want to keep reliability in check relative to the mods. Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

for those kind of mods you really should only be looking for a manual trany, I don't remember the exact numbers off hand of what the tip is suposed to handle but Its not that high. But 300 hp is an achivable goal and you shouldn't have any troble reachin it. there are a few on here that have expireance with the larger turbos and stand alown fuel managment sytems, they should be able to help with more technical question. welcome to the forume

RE: 1.8T auto trans plus some other questions
Thanks alot Flyboy. I have good experience with the whole turbocharged performance and tuning areas being a DSM'er at heart. I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX that I'm getting rid of for an A4 that has a lot of work put into it. I need something newer and can't afford both cars so I'll have to part with my DSM and look for another in a few years.
Anyone running an auto/tip with upgrades pushing the 300hp mark? For those with experience in Audi's, particular A4, how do the auto trannys respond to increased torque and power demands?
By the way, if anyone knows or is selling a B5 A4 let me know and I'm in the DC area. I prefer the silver exterior/black interior but I'll entertain other offers. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions.

I find that tough to believe. You mean Audi didn't design their autotrans to withstand more than 250-280hp? Is that just the limit of the stock torque converter or is that actually the friction limits of the clutch packs within the auto trans? I guess the car only makes 150hp and torque stock so an increase of almost 100% hp and torque would be substantial. This is why I stick to manuals anyways Looks like I'll narrow the search to a 5-speed 1.8T. Thanks for the information thus far. Keep it coming!
