03 A4 Flashing Gas Cap Light
I am having a problem with 2003 1.8L A4. Shortly after getting gas last week my gas cap light came on and was flashing. The cap was securely in place and I have replaced it with a new one with no relief. There are no OBD2 trouble codes and no relavent faults when I do an auto scan with vagcom. Does anyone have an suggestions about where to start looking to solve this issue?
Thanks!

Always click it three times... I've done that and had no problems, who knows if that even does anything, but I read that somewhere and have been doing it since.. did you click it over a couple more times?
If you did then its probably a faulty sensor[&:]

I've clicked the old cap plenty of times and even replaced it.
Someone send me an email and said that the gas light doesnt refer to the cap at all but instead that the gas door is open. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I wish my B5 had a flashing light for that!
I've driven off twice now, forgetting the gas cap on the little gas door. And it's not tethered with a wire, either. Both times I managed to find the fecking thing... but seriously, I need to FOCUS when getting gas. Hahaha, evidently I have the attention span of a fly, and am very absent minded.
Maybe that's why the forums had such an easy time luring me in...

RE: 03 A4 Flashing Gas Cap Light
Macbeth, I had the same problem a couple of months ago. I also have a 2003 A4 1.8T. After I filled up with gas, I had difficulty taking the gas nozzel out. After pulling very hard, it finally came out, but I noticed that I bent the metal in the bottom of the hole where you insert the gas nozzel. I thought nothing of it and put the gas cap back on, which clicked into place, and closed the gas door. When I got back in my car, a light was on my instrument display that said my gas door was open. I looked at the door again and saw that itwas closed. I then realized there is a sensor inside the gas hole that is tripped by the gas cap. Since I bent the hole, the gas cap did not trip the sensor.I used a flathead screwdriver and a hammer and bent back the metal. The gas door light doesn't come on anymore.
Check if the metal in the gas hole has and bends. If it does, try doing what I did and it may fix it.

I have looked it over closely but cant seem to find any button or anything inside the mouth. Where did you find it in relation to the hole? Is there anyway you could take a picture?
Thanks!
