Let me start out by saying this is a great forum!! I have spent the last few days just searching and reading. I am buying an A4 1.8T and was wondering if there is any differences between the 2002-2004 cars? I know the body style is the same from '02-'05, but the '05 is just out of my price range. I have searched, but I can't find anything showing the differences between them. This will be my first Audi, so I am making sure that the one I buy, will be the right one for me. I want a manual transmission and would like a Quattro, but not a must. It will be my daily driver and I will also be doing instructor/driving schools at Sebring with it, so the manual is preferred! I have taken alot of notes from this forum regarding upgrades and such.................wow, there is alot notes.

Hey welcome to the forums. There really isn't much difference between the cars in those years. Maybe a few little things but nothing to make you consider one year over the next I suppose.

 

Thanks for your time! I have done alot of reading and just want to make sure before I make the purchase. If anyone knows of any small differences, please let me know. I have a friend that has an '03 A4 1.8t and she has real leather seats, all the ones I have looked at are leather-ette. Hmmm? Great forum guys...........

In '04 the manual became a 6 speed rather than 5. This is nice because the MT5 is no good for highway driving. It screams. Also, in '04 they came with factory painted lowers.

 

Thanks for the info. AudiTech04--I have read ALOT, and trust me I have taken a TON of notes on these cars. Thanks flyinb, these are some small differences but not enough to make me decide on a different year. I am looking for an 02-03 based on money and I want the lowest mileage I can find. Doesnt everyone want the best car for the lowest price? I will let ya know what I get when I find it! I will even fly somewhere, buy it, and drive home!

 

Does anyone know about the leather seat differences in the 02-04 cars? Most of the cars that I am looking at have all the little pin holes in the seats, which the dealer said that means they are leatherette! Do they make leather in these years?

I am also looking for an 03 Audi A4. The car I test drove had 33K miles on it, the car has the winter package. He is ready to sell it to me at 21,500. It seems lower than the book value. What kind of deal are you looking at?
btw the o3 does has leather seats.

If it seems like a really good deal, more than likely its a FWD cvt.

I would say those are some very big differences.

 

Well , the 02's sport suspension is the lowest of all B6's .
On the 04 you would get the 6spd , as well as the headlight housings would be black in the inside.
The 04 also has 'auto' headlight feature.
