Hi guys,

First of all id just like to say that im addicted to your forum.. since i got my a4 in feb 06 i have visited this board at least twice a day but ive never been a big fan of post whoring...

Well now ive got an issue and yes ive searched.

The issue is as follows.

1 month ago: went to start car and EPC light stayed on and its cranked over ALOT before starting.

This morning: I left my place and i drove for about 5 min very slowly because traffic was brutal crossing the provincial bridge and the car died on me while idling on the bridge.. i then shut off the key and tried to turn it on.. it cranked for a couple seconds and no spark... i then pressed on the throttle a bit and it started... On the remainder of the slow drive to work which lasted about 5 more minutes the car was idling at 1100rpm instead of the normal 900ish... When i got to the parking garage I shut it off.. and then started it back up... no more EPC light!!!

Damn, I love my car.. but im starting to get fed up with the darn electronic glitches.

Throttle body was cleaned last august by stealership....

By epc light, you mean the check engine light? I am not familiar with the epc light.

It never hurts to cheack and clean the TB again, since its been 9 months since it was done. It could have something to do with it.

 

The EPC light is for the traction control and probably has nothing to do with the car stalling out on you. You need to check the faults in the ECM and figure out whats causing the engine problem, as for the EPC light if you interrogate the brake electronics you'll probably have a sporatic fault for the brake light switch.

Engine will run in limp mode.

 

Im pretty sure the EPC has nothing to do with the brakes and has something to do with the throttle body... do the throttle bodies go bad and require complete replacement?

 

My owner's manual says " have the dealer fix it".

 

EPC light is the electronic throttle control on 2000 and later cars (ie drive by wire). It could be the sending unit attached to the gas pedal.

Turns out it was the Engine Speed Sensor. $140.00cdn later and im good to go.
