Default $320 to change a battery in my A4???

This is ridiculous -- dropped my A4 off at the dealer due to a sticking parking brake. They couldn't duplicate the prob, but they did give me a quote on a few routine maintenance issues .... I don't know how they can quote these prices and keep a straight face:

battery change -- $320.
rear brake pads -- $3-hundred and something.

On the battery, can't I just pick one up frmo Wal Mart?

I believe there was a whole thread on this just a little while back and it included alternate part numbers and accurate pricing.
Sounds like you're getting ripped IMHO.

Search the archives and you should find what you need.
Lots of people chimed in with info in that thread.
Good luck.

If WalMart carries #48 you can. I know Autozone has it for$70.
An independent mechanic should be able to do rear pads for $150.
The minimum rear brake pad thickness is 2mm , less than 1/10".

The dealer here in MN Quoted me $4xx for pads and rotors. Independent shop - $320.
Also the dealer told me I needed my rear pads replaced at 3mm. Yes, they squeal like hell, but I'll drive until I can do it myself.
I'll change your battery for $160!

Wow, you can do all of these projects with a $20 set of tools. Why bother getting ripped? Brake pads an replacing a battery are some of the most BASIC car repairs that nearly anyone can do themselves with enough time and patience.

battery = about 70

brake pads = about 40

brake pad tool for rears = about 20.

So for about 140 total and an hour or two or your time, you'll be set.

Yeah, no kidding. I love being mechanically inclined.... it saves so much money, and I know the job is done right.

Paying to have this stuff done for you is like paying someone to feed you: you should only do it if you're old and feeble
