Default "URGENT ADVICE NEEDED" - RE: oil pressure

Hi Guys,

today I was driving along and my oil pressure alert popped up on my screen. I drive a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T quattro. I need to rectify the problem ASAP as I am going on a trip for Christmas. Has someone had this problem before and if so what is the cause and what is required to rectify it.

Your inputs would be appreciated.

thanks heaps in advance

I spoke with my mechanic, and he said the first thing that came to his mind was a plugged up oil pick up screen

Pull the oil pan and clean the pickup screen.

thanks guys

i just took it to my audi service centre this morning - they said they will look into it. I just hope they are able to diagnose and rectify the problem by today, the last thing I want is not having a car for the Christmas holidays. Since I didnt book the service/repair in there were no more loan cars

thanks guys

May be Sludge!

I wouldn't drive the car. Do you use full synthetic oil?

Unless the dealer does it under warranty they'll bend you over...

You definitely shouldn't drive it. I had this problem about 2 months ago. With mine, the oil pump had to be replaced. I paid $1500 to get it fixed. It took about a week. The manual recommends changing the oil about every 10,000 miles, but it turns out that this schedule is inadequate for the 1.8T. Have them put an A6 filter on it and change the oil at least every 5,000.

not good guys, they think its the oil pump and its going to cost me $2000 AUD at least. They have not verified it yet and will not be able to until after Christmas holidays as they shut half day today, so I have no car for Christmas - talk about perfect timing - not to mention the hole in my pocket
