RE: wierd anooying downshift
Hi Martino-[ul][*] What year is your A3?[*] Can you drive to a dealership when it's happening so they can experience it?[*] Why do you keep taking the Audi to this PENSKE shop you keep mentioning? Let Audi deal with it if it's under warranty.

Same issue
I'm having same issue. We bought the car used with just under 39000 miles on it.27 days after we got it we were getting off the highway and and I swear I thought Prime had dropped outta the sky and superman punch down on the hood of the car it was so hard. It made My heart skip a beat. It was bad. As soon as it happened the front end nose' dived onto the front tires.instantly got a hub bearing noise from right front.this also caused the brand new rf tire to shift a belt and caused a bubble. We bought it from a Buick dealership. My thought was take it to an audi dealership. So I did. They've had it for 5 days now. The "tech" could not replicate it. He then sends me a video of him diag the bearing and says it in the LF.? So I asked if I could take him for a ride and see if I can get it to replicate because I didn't want it to happen again with the new LF bearing....(?).so I could not get it to replicate but I noticed there was no charge in the battery and when it originally happned it was in hybrid mode not just gas. So I said this is likely why he couldn't get it to replicate. Also while we were on that drive the growling got worse when I turned right. I told the " tech" that this is a dead ringer for a bad RF bearing as I stated to the service writer when we dropped off.not LF as he thinks. He goes on to tell me that this scanner was olny picking up a vibration in the LF while up on rack. I tried to teach him about tolerances and unsprung weight differences but the 24 year old self confessed VW "tech" went with his diag. Well got me a free RF bearing goin in right now. And a good chuckle too. But my main concern is I told this "Audi" tech about a couple of tsb's and also about the unit dog valvebody in the trans. He said yeah I saw those too. Honestly I'm happy I found this thread because I'm not crazy and I can show my wife so she know I wasn't driving like crazy....."I do that sometimes so I don't blame her lmao" I just think it crazy that when this happened it caused atleast 1 bad tire,1 bad hub and honestly I'm sure there's something bad in the rear as hard as it hit. And also whatever originally happened. So with all this being said I also see alot of people tellin this person to take it to audi. Well I did. And well I rambled long enough to prove I'm sure there's better "audi tech's" out there besides dealership techs. I'm really not trying to bash the kid but when a customer comes in and says this is how it happened then you do everything that person said exactly the same way as they were doing to replicate.in truth this kid didn't even know where it chaged, changed, said in front behind the audi logo, honestly this made me worrie a bit lmai I'm just saying take your car to where you thinks best. I choose audi and I could have done it myself but I figured hell that's why we got the extra warranty lol
