Default RE: Wheel Noise... Inside

ORIGINAL: Barney
I recently went on a ski trip and while coming back noticed that the noise inside my car became slightly louder. My buddy said maybe it's the wheel bearings or that it could be just the tires themselves. Anyone out there experienced this? Do wheel bearings need to be changed after 30,000 or 35,000? I've got almost 40,000 on my car now.
I just had my front left wheel bearing replaced due to noise (a very high-pitched squeal) at 35K. Notably, the long-term A3's used by Road & Track and Automobile both required wheel bearing replacements on one wheel. I suspect that therewas a batch ofdefective bearings used on some early-build A3's.

Tire noise, especially if you have the notorious Pirelli P6's, is a distinct possibility, but that would be less likely to happen during a single drive.
