What have I done to my wife's A3? jacking problem
Put her snow tires on this weekend and looks like I used an improper jacking location.
Scraping noise when steering wheel is fully turned (like when we enter our garage). Hope it's nothing really serious.

possible to post some pics a bit zoomed out? I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking at there. I need some better reference points.
It appears you may have put the jack somewhere on the belly pan? If so you probably bent one of the metal pieces that holds the belly pan on. the noise you're hearing is probably some rubbing from where something is displaced. Most likely not major, but definitely needs to be addressed.

This picture is taken looking toward the front of the car. The sill in the bottom left of the picture is under the driver's door. Seemed so logical to lift the car from this point. It sits right on line with recommended lifting point in the Audi manual.

It looks like you put the jack too far under the car. I'm not sure exactly what you got bent or what's scratching, but you'll probably do fine just taking it to your local mechanic. I see no reason for an expensive dealer visit.

OK. seems like you got the jack in an acceptable/proper place. You mention you put the snow set on. Have you used these wheels/tires on this car before? you say you hear the scraping only when the steering wheel is fully turned. I'm considering the problem may be due to a wheel/tire size difference and that is why you are getting the rub. Also, check the CV joints. Maybe a bearing? I dunno. just taking pot shots at this point, but I don't think the jack point you used is an issue.

Same wheels and tires as last winter mounted in the same position on the car. That's the troubling part. Will have a closer look at potential rub issue tonight when I get home. Will jack the car up again (using the proper jack location) and take one of the wheels off. CV joints and bearings were fine on Friday...put the snow tires on saturday and now I have a problem. I guess the cracked skid plate is more of a nuisance than anything.

I had a similar problem about a year back and it wound up costing me about 1500 bucks... last time I do anything myself... I dont know much about cars but thought a simple tire change would be no problem.. the constant rubbing and grinding drove me insane to the point that I had my buddy fix it... Take it in, get it fixed and move on....

It's hard to tell from the pictures you have, but I had a friend who accidently used a poor jacking point which put a lot of pressure in the wrong places.
If it feels like its rubbing poorly theres a good chance that you'll need to replace a tie rod and the upper links (around $500 with labor?), usually the main thing to check if there is to much play in the wheel/poor alignment. Wheel hub could be suspect too, but that wouldn't be damaged from jacking up the car.
It may also be something like the control arms that are FUBAR as well, I just had those done which cost me $900 with labor, not including all the other suspect parts I had changed first.
Sounds like with the additional pressure you may have broken some larger suspension components which were otherwise fine until they encountered stress they werent ment for. If this is the case, new control arms and tie rods are pretty close to the $1500 mark that the above poster also mentioned. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

This indicates you may have put the port somewhere on the waist pan? If so you probably damaged one of the precious steel bits that supports the waist pan on. the disturbance you're reading is probably some eradicate from where something is homeless. Most likely not significant, but definitely needs to be resolved.
