Default Weird body groaning sound

Hey, has anyone experienced this? About a week ago, my A3 started making low frequency groaning sounds, almost like the creaking of the floors in an old house or more like the groaning of a wooden ship in the waves. It's a 2007 A3, about 10 months old.

When do you hear the noises?

Just during normal driving. I don't have to be going fast or slow or doing anything special.

It seems to be coming from the rear of the car. Now that I think of it, I first noticed the noise right after it csme back from the shop. I had a minor rear-end collision and they had to remove the rear bumper to do repairs. Unfortunately the shop is closed for vacation right now but I'll have them check it out as soon as they get back in town.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Its coming from the floor board (or what ever its called) in the boot. If you open the rear hatch and push the boards slightly, you'll hear that noise. I think its styrofoam rubbing against plastic. I hear the same thing in my car every now and then, especially if I have grocery bags in the boot. Audi must have used styrofoam material to save weight. Its sort of annyoing but nothing serious.

Ok, so I got the problem fixed. It turned out that when they took my bumper off to fix it, they accidentally disconnected some support for the exhaust system. I'm not even sure what it's called, but there are a couple of long bars under the exhaust that connect to the front axle. Because they were disconnected, the exhaust pipes would bend with pressure and make groaning sounds. Probably not very good for the exhaust system, but it seems ok *knock on wood*.

Glad they got it fixed..I have a creaking sound myself. My driveway is kindof on an incline, the street side is 1/4 ramped down veruss the part near the garage, whenever I park with parking break there is a creaking sound as the car 'locks' into place. same when I take it off. kinda annoying as I don't recall the same with the last car, 11 years old integra
