Passenger side seat belt buckle is faulty?

Passenger side seat belt buckle is faulty?
I have an 06 A3 that has a 'faulty' seat belt bbuckle on the passenger side, which disables the airbag.
I heard that sometimes adjusting the seat fore/aft too quickly can damage or dislodge the connections below the seat that connects the belt buckle sensors to the car?
I was quoted $1150 US to replace the entire seat belt, male and female buckles, at an authorized Audi service center. I almost threw up..
Is this something that can be remedied more easily?
The tech guy said that both the female and male parts of the buckle were 'sending back faults'...now how in the world can the male part have any fault? It's a slab of steel...
any help would be greatly appreciated!

That does sound steep for just the RF seat belt and buckle. The seat belt assembly is 281.25, and the picture does show a small harness as part of the buckle, for 123.75 or 131.25 depending on which one you'd need. I'd need your vin # to figure that out though. Our problem is we can't ship the seat belt due to it being considered hazardous material. The buckle I can ship, if you need that. I'm sorry I don't have more information for you. I hope this bit helps out. Thank you, Jeff.
