Default Open Sky Trim warping in heat

Has anyone else run into this problem? I did not see a post when I searched. The drivers side roof trim on my open sky roof system is warping. It has been replaced but needs to be replaced again after one week. When I park in the sun, it expands, hits the tailgate spoiler and the windshield trim until it pops up out of the track and bends. The thing is plastic and is only held in place by four clips and (get this) Double stick tape. Yes, it is taped in place. Aside from the fact that it takes a week to order the thing (the ABS unit that failed was a good ten day wait), I can not see a solution to this problem because the next piece of trim they order is going to be the same length. The plastic is so maleable that if I happen to open the tailgate while the trim is in contact it bends and does not spring back.

i have the exact same prob! i'm taking my A3 in on wednesday to the Pasadena dealership. this seems like it may be a continous problem...hmmm i hope they can find a solution. yeah very annoying, i opened my trunk and didn't notice the trim was warped. so as my trunk opened all the way, it bent it even more..arrgg!! i'll post what happens. btw, i've had my car for a month now.

p.s. i was also surprised to see that double stick tape!! geez...

I just dropped mine off at the dealer. They are going to order another trim again. The only solution I could think of is installing the Base Carrier Bars because they come with a different trim. Of course they are out of stock in until December 2007 and I don't feel like shelling out $350 to solve Audi's problem. Germany is a much cooler country than most of North America. I love German cars but every problem that I have had has been heat related. I think they tend to engineer their cars for a climate where 80 degrees is a heat wave.

I haven't had any problem like this....I even checked it out thoroughly at lunch. It gets pretty warm here in OK during the summers (95* - 102* is prob the avg during July and Aug). Do either of you have any pictures of the warping you are speaking about? (In case I am looking at/for something completely different than what you are experiencing)

Yep, mine looks exactly the same. You can even see the double stick tape. Looks just like the stuff you buy at Office Depot...

what about that 3m automotive tape?
If that stuff can hold body kit side skirts and spoilers in place, you'd think it could hold some flimsy trim.

Yes, you are probably correct in that it is 3M body tape. I am razzing them a bit. Clearly, even though the 3M tape is supposed to dissapate expansion and contraction the body panel has no place to go when it expands. Tapes and clips are not going to hold that puppy down. Also, my tape practically turns to liquid in the heat.

Holy $hi+ !!! I definitely think I would notice something like that. Like I said before, I haven't had this problem or ever even heard of it until this post. Hope it is not going to be a common issue. Where in Cali are you? What kind of temps do you get during the summer months?
