Newbie CPO A3 07 2.0T and a host of questions
Hello all,
Just got my first Audi yesterday in the form of CPO 07' A3 2.0T 6MT in Sprint blue pearl with S-line, cold weather, tech pkg and open sky. 45k on the odometer and walked out with $18.2k before taxes so I don't think I did too bad.
I have 06 STI as well, and yes it is a bit slower but that is not the point of this car. I like the firm but comfortable ride, shifter and clutch is soft but very precise. Added benefit of going from 24 mpg highway to 32 mpg on the A3 is a good bonus too. I wanted Quattro but I couldn't give up 6 speed for that.
Being new to this, I have a few questions
1. Looking to get a second set of wheels for snow tires, as I live in Colorado. Tire rack has 16" wheel packages and I'm looking to get a Sparco wheel set with dedicated snow tires. My question is, is TPMS required on 07 A3?
2. The car does not have audio package, so it has the simple Audi Concert head unit. It does have blue tooth but I do not have a media player that supports blue tooth. Is there any OEM-ish way to get AUX-IN port?
3. I got the Audi care plus out to 75,000 mile service, plus the CPO warranty. I get the feeling a lot of folks here lease cars so this might be a wrong place to ask, but if you have a high mileage A3, how has the reliability been in stock form? Other than going to Europe and buying an S3 this is as close as I can get and I'd like to keep this car for a long time. I hear about Audi reliability issues all the time and I want to know how much of it is real and how much of it is blown up.

Here's an excellent collection of potential trouble areas that could afflict A3's I've experienced about half of these):

The FSI motors (not to be confused with TFSI motors that appeared in late 2008 A3's) are known to use oil - anywhere from 1500-5000 mi/qt. Change it more often than the 10K recommendation. Using Mobil 1 0W-40, I change at 6-6.5K, based on oil tests done on my oil by Blackstone Labs.
Here's another must read for A3 owners. Too bad he won't be continuing this saga, having moved on to a different car.

I have the same car (only white) with 50,000+ miles and have had little trouble with it. I use a cassette adapter for my mp3 player, which is pretty low tech but it's good enough for me. I use a quart of oil about every 5000 miles. Most of the VW/Audi problems are on older cars and folks keep repeating the old numbers. Even my brother who sees a lot of VW in his shop admits it's the older models and folks don't maintain them like they should.

Thanks for the response, went to VWVortex and forgot to visit this place again.
So I found out although that price was comfortably lower than KBB CPO value, I actually did pay more than what other people potentially could have paid. Well I still have no regrets, the body is in perfect shape no dents at all, and I would not have bought an A3 in any other color than sprint blue pearl. Just put a full front clear bra on the A3 to help it keep it clean.
I plan to do an oil change every 5,000 miles as most people recommend. I get 29 MPG average (~5 better than my protuned STI) but I still red line it everyday on the ramp so I'm not exactly easy on the engine.
The biggest things I've noticed on VWVortex is PCV / diverter valve and Cam follower. Cam follower seems to be the most source of problems, since valve can be replaced easily. I just saw that VW issued extended warranty for 2.0T FSI engines until 120k miles so this should be okay.

I am also new to the A3 just purchased mine this last friday, it is an 08 s line that has everything but nav. had 14,997 miles when I purchased and also came with a certified warranty through 2014! very happy with it so far even tho I don't get to drive it again till june (when I fly back to my parents house in vegas where I bout it).
anyways I think you did pretty good on price mine was 20k out the door. they were asking 23k so they didn't want to move to much..
by the way I was a former Legacy GT stage 2 with vf39 owner but I kept having miss fires on number 3 and decided to put it back to stock and sell, now I have this and a duramax but I do miss the AWD fun.
