Need advice on wheel spacers

RE: Need advice on wheel spacers
Uhhh, why would you want to add spacers? I can think of a few reasons...
1)You are running 245/40-17s and having rubbing problems on the strut. [:@]
2)You skipped the part about unsprung weight and steering geometry in Auto Ed 101
3) You like to buy wheel bearings.[sm=bangbang.gif]
4) You don't like the color of your fender lips, and don't want to spend a perfectly good Saturday sanding them. [sm=icon_rock.gif]
5) You couldn't find a good slammed '60s Chevy Impalaw/chrome reverse wheels and baby moon hubcaps[sm=smokin.gif]
Ok, all that said, with you current setup, 10MM maximum. If you go lower, or change to wheels with less offset: none. A3s are pretty tight on their clearances and a few mm up, down or sideways will make or break clearances and cause problems. That's why people prefer coilovers - 'cuz they can nudge them up and down to fit whatever they change.
Spacers increase the leverage on the wheel bearings and can cause premature wheel bearing and suspension ball joint failure. The also leverage the track and increase torque steer and steering kickback over bumps. Unless you need them for clearance problems on the strut, I would avoid them.

RE: Need advice on wheel spacers
I put on 20mm spacers ~30,000 milesago...no rubbing...no replacing wheel bearings...no unusual tire wear...blaa blaa blaa...
