Default Haldex Gen 4 as a mod?

I understand a few on the forum have upgraded to the gen 2 controller. I am wondering if anyone knows whether the Haldex gen 4 clutch apparently on the 09 A3/S3 will be available as an aftermarket upgrade? I just got my 08 a3 in March so I am kind of bummed to hear they are just now in the new model year jumping to the gen 4 controller.

I was debating doing the gen 2 but now I don't know what to do. I don't expect the dealership will know much about this or if the gen 4 is even compatible on a pre-09 a3 so I am hoping someone here does know.

Anyone have recent input or experience with the Haldex gen 2 upgrade that is currently available via HPA? I think I saw Krazyboi had put it in. I was hoping to get the gen 4 if it comes available as a mod but nobody seems to know if that will happen. I asked the dealership if they could do it and they are of course unhelpful. I figure if it comes on the 09 A3 why couldn't it be installed on the 08.5?

I decided against this mod after several Audi owners told me the altered bias does put additional strain on the DSG drivetrain. The Gen2 is easy to detect because it's a different color, and I know my dealership will not be down with that.

You know what I think I heard this same point before from you or someone else so I will drop this one. Of course they must have done something with the 09 as the Haldex was upgraded to improve acceleration so in that setup they must have felt the DSG could handle it. Thanks anyway Drum

If you never drive aggressively down winding roads, the Gen 2 Haldex will be invisible. I installed mine last week, and just driving around town, I can't tell any difference from the oem Haldex. Tomorrow morning, I am taking a drive up into the twisties of the Angeles Crest Highway, so we shall see . . .I don't think you need to worry about wear and tear due to the Haldex. It is the style of driving that causes the wear and tear

THanks Kgw. Please update after you have pushed it a bit with any impressions. Have you noticed anything on acceleration? The gen 2 is supposed to help with launch as it puts more power to the rear I believe.

gen 2 does nothing to launch. You have limited wheel spin to being with, so it's not going to improve you 0-60 time. On the other hand, when you bring it to the track, it will feel like a different car. A lot less understeer/wheel spin coming out of corners. Definitely a must performance mod IMO.

thanks, this is the most helpful explanation thus far. I haven't gotten into the track with this car as of yet so I am going to hold off on the gen 2 for now.

Ok, This is an old thread but the new HPA GenIV is on its way to the USA. Heard it from the horses mouth. I have the new Audi Gen IV in my A3. The setup is different then the previous versions so I doubt it will fit prefacelift A3
