crash tests
Consumer Reports has just released short summaries, including video footage, of front and side crash tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. You can access the site here, but you may need to subscribe first.
The 2006-2007 A3 got the highest rating, "Good", for both the frontal offset and the side impact test. It got one notch lower, "Acceptable", for the rear impact test, but it was still good enough to rank second (out of sixteen) in their category of Midsized Moderately Priced Cars. (The Subaru Legacy was first; Mitsubish Galant was last.)
In related news, the A4 was tops overall in "Midsized Cars", and the A6 tops overall in "Large Cars".
Kudos, Audi.

RE: crash tests
The A3 seems to do quite well in front-end collisions.
Driver and front seat passenger were treated and released. (to jail)
Rear passenger had non-life-threatening head injuries.
All were wearing seat-belts.
