Default cool temps + wet weather = wait on paint protection film

Just some words to any of you thinking about a clear auto bra: Wait til the local weather's consistently warm and sunny, and reschedule your installation if the weather turns otherwise. My installation was completed 24 hours before torrential downpours. Film on the side mirrors started to peel and buckle from moisture penetrating the new seal. the installer is having to redo them along with some other minor touchup. He said he knew better than to do this with the forecast and that he's taking care of everything til it's perfect.

Sidenote: I had no idea this stuff was so hard to install. So much prep work and hand-stretching needed that it's impossible to have everything 100% symmetrical. The only pieces that fit perfectly were over the headlights and corners. Still looks good though, and your have to look REALLY closely to see imperfections in the stretching. Looks way better than having chips in the paint, too.

Ohhh...thats a shame...mosture needing redo of clear bra installation, I thought they baked the 3M stuff on somewhat.

Clear Bra's are not perfect, you'll see the edges lift after so many years too even after a excellent install. They have used something like 3M clear protection in limited areas of the exterior body (mirrors, rear wheel area) on VW or Audi's for awhile, now they market this protection as a replacement to the older heavy fiber bra's. I don't like the fact that you have to choose whether you want to do clear bra or permaplate/sealant equivalent for exterior but you can't do both. At least you'll be somewhat protected now after you get done!

I actually went with the Formula One paint protection after hearing about what 3M'ssystem looks like in the long term (adhesive weakens in time, may also yellow). Fortunately the stuff has a warranty that lasts the lifetime of the car, so anything comes up has to get reattached.

My town has perpetual road construction and I went thru half a container of touch-up with my Subaru over 4 years...I don't want that headache again.
