A3 1.8T 2001 Electrical Problems
Hi guys,
I seem to be getting a growing pile of electrical problems. They are:
1. Driver's door electric window refuses to operate.
2. Electric sunroof opens only VERY occasionally.
3. Driver's door indicates open when it is shut, thus the internal lights stay on and the warning panel on the dash shows the 'open door' symbol. (This problem is eventually solved by opening and closing the door until the lights go off)
4. Each morning (and only once per day, on first start off) I get four 'beeps' from the near side rear quarter. Why?
Are these problems in any way related? Could there be a common cause?
Thanks for any help/advice!!

I think the first thing to do is get it plugged in to VAGCOM (any garage can do this) to check for error codes. By the number of problems you have, I would presume it will find a few.
Also check for blown fuses; if there are a few blown then it may suggest an earthing problem. (A while ago, I had an earthing problem with a faulty reverse-selection sensor that blew the fuse for the speedo).
#4. Near side rear quarter is where the alarm unit is situated. I'm not sure if the manual details the alarm, but 4 bleeps may indicate a security alert i.e. the system believing the car has been tampered with... This may indicate a tie in with point #3.
Hope this helps.
