Default 2006 A3 3.2 Idle problems

Having some idle issues with my 3.2. It seems to be idling low (600rpm) and the car rumbles a bit.

It was previously jumpy (600-1200 or so) and had a check engine light that turned out to be an oxygen sensor, so thought that was the issue, but after the o2 sensor fix it still idles low and rumbles.

Read that it might be a timing chain issue (stretched timing chain)?? But seems that a timing chain fix is $3k plus

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I just went through this and I changed the post cat sensor, problem persisted, replaced all coils and plugs, still had rough idle so I caved and took it to the dealer. Of course they replaced the pre cat sensor and all is well. So if you're inclined I would suggest at least coils and plugs. My car had 64K miles when I did this work. Good luck.

I had something similar to this: rough idle, powerless, very doggy off of the line. Ended up being the solenoid that extends the tensioner for the timing chain. $320 later at the dealership..runs like a champ again!

Did you read any codes indicating a tensioner problem?

judging by your error code, looks like just a sensor. try changing out the "Engine speed sensor/crankshaft position sensor " first.
