Default 2002 51 Plate A3 Q's

Lo Everybody,

Newbie hear so appologies for the intial first long winded post. Just have a few queries that I am sure someone can advise me on.

I own a 2002 Silver A3 and have noticed an issue with my fuel gauge, it does not seem to fall under the 1/2 marker when running and sits on the RESERVE red line whilst off. If I fill the car up the fuel gauge goes well over the FULL indication. I have tried replacing the fuel filter under the back seat and also running some Diesel cleaning agent through the system. Only other thing I can think is the fuse or the clocks themselves any ideas?

I also have the Concert standard radio that came with the car but does anyone know if it has RCA ports on the back so I can plug my iphone into it. I would think it doesnt but worth an ask before purchasing a new head unit and then working a way out to try and get the cable out the back of the unit and into the storage space below.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Hi Matt,

I have exactly the same fuel problem with with 52 plate A3. This one is a petrol version. I've had this looked at by my local garage who found no problems with the fuel gauge and suggested that the dash pod was the problem.

I then took it to the Audi dealership and they have said that the problem is the dash pod. I don't know enough to determine if this is true but it is going to cost a whopping £520 (parts and labour) to replace. It is covered under a warranty I have so I am not too worried. I think there are some places that will do a repair job on you old dash pod.

This is a real saga though. I recently bought the car from a dealer and two days after I got it I drove to work on the M4 and, while the fuel gauge was showing three quarters full, and because I didn't know there was a problem, I ran out of fuel. Not a good thing to do in rush hour in the middle lane of the M4! There are not enough expletives to say what I think of the dealer and how he has responded.

Our cars are really close in age. Coincidence?

Hope you get yours sorted.

Mark,

Sounds very odd indeed, can you confirm if that fixed the issue. I am looking to sell the car in the next 12 months so need to know what I need to be saving for.

Thanks

Matt,

Sorry for the late reply. I had the work done last week and wanted to make sure that the issue had been sorted by using fuel to let the gauge go down and then filling up to confirm that the gauage went back up. I'm pleased to say that it did. Everything now works.

Hope yours gets sorted too.

Mark
