WTB Passenger door A4 B5 speaker (non bose)
Hi guys,
I am looking for a 4' non bose passenger door speaker. My car is a 1999 A4 B5. I took out the old speaker and have taken a pic of it(see attached image). If anyone has one of these in good condition post here please.
TIA

You should just buy a new set of 4" coaxials. I used to run Polk DB400's in my front door before i upgraded to 5.25" Polk components. They're not that expensive and it would definitely be a better upgrade over the stock speakers.

Are those DB400's a direct fit? Or will i have to make modifications. Thanks for your reply BTW.

The DB400's were not a direct fit, but you can by speaker brackets that allow you to mount them in the doors, or you can make your own. I decided to do the latter.
I actually used the old 4" stock speakers to accomplish this. I used a dremel cutting tool and cut the mounting ring from the old speaker (see image), so that all that remained was just the ring with the 3 mounting points. I theninstalled thenew speaker, and slid the mounting ring over the new speaker and screwed it down. I didn't have a lick of problems and it was completely secure.
I should note that you do not use any of the mounting points on the new speaker - that's where the ring comes into play. I placed the speaker so that it fit in betweenthe mounting posts on the door, and such that the new speaker's cone was centered in the door's speaker opening so that it wasn't hittinganything.

Sorry to hi-jack a bit but, A4 Effort, did you use a custom bracket to mount the 5.25 inch speakers in the front door panels? I want to replace the factory speakers and considered sticking with 4 inch speakers but 5.25 inch speakers would be better. Thanks!
