How the F@!*K do you clean a 2.8 from sludge
It was nice to know I got the 99.5 a4 quattro 2.8 for a good price, until i lifted the cover and couldn't believe all the sludge/grime everywhere. Always had subarus and never had this happen. Anyhelp

Sludge in the engine, or is the engine just dirty?
#3
the obvious, outside is sludgy. who knows about the inside...yet, just never had a car with so much of it. I just got the car its a good car with 9K of recent maintenance, but the engine looks so dirty

Thanks man, I saw the part with the intake manifold and two tubes, nothing else though.?

Will, the outside you could scrap with a putty knife then use something like 'Engine Brite' and a hose. Just avoid spraying the coils and whatnot.

Isn't this the wrong side of the forum? need's to be put in the a6=2.8l section.

nah Its a 2.8 30V AHA engine on A4 Quattro MT. it sat for a year, so I want opinions on any additives for audi motors (seafoam, lucas, z max....)

No Lucas, no Z-Max, Slick-50 or any of that crap. Best thing to do for the inside would be change oil with a good Synthetic Diesel oil like Mobil 1 5w-40 Turbo Diesel Truck or Rotella T 5w-40. Run it for 2-3k miles and before you change the oil, put a half can of SeaFoam in and run it easy (light load) for 50-60 miles (put the rest into your tank), let it sit over night, then run the engine to operating temps (fans kick in) before actually draining the oil. Fill it back up with the same Diesel oil and change at 6k miles. Then you can fill with whatever Synthetic you want.
Second best thing is to stay away from Fram filters; Purolater Pure One, Mobil 1, or Mann filters only. K&N is the same as Mobil 1, but costs more. Find the biggest filter that will fit. Mine is Mobil 1 M301 or Purolater PL30001.
When you are running the oil during the first 2-3k mile period, run Techron in your tank every 3rd tank. This'll clear out the injectors and fuel system slowly before you SeaFoam.
You can also do at least a partial drain and fill of the coolant system. Partial fills require you get the Audi stuff. Full flushes allows you to use something like G05 or Peak Global.

this is really interesting, what does the diesel oil do for the engine? Yes I currently have a puro One filter and royal purple 5-30 in it, How about gear and diff oil, not sure if its ever been changed, are they the same oils, does it need flushed or drain? Never done this....right that is?
