I'm sending this message from a hotel nevada in Ely NV.

Here's the story: I'm moving from Virginia to California and am driving an audi A6 stuffed to the roofline with all my possessions and while navigating an uphill grade east of Ely NV on hwy 50 at approximately 85 mph @ 5000 rpm (grin) I suddenly lost all engine power, all electronics still functioned and as I coasted to a halt on the side of the road, the car lurched a couple of times at around 30 mph and 20 mph. After the car came to a halt and I tried to restart the vehicle all I heard was a spinning sound; which I assume was the starter, that did not turn over the engine.

mechanical history:
-I purchased the car in Aug. from the 3rd owner.
-timing chain changed at 124000, current odometer 149700
-Engine noise exhibited a definite knock that has gotten progressively louder since Colorado. I thought it was the heater fan or bad gas.
-no knowledge of any mechanical problems aside from the car being loaded with an additional 600 lbs of crap.

Any ideas of what happened or the best way to diagnose the problem from a remote location with the nearest Audi dealer or service center 365 miles away, on a sunday, would be greatly appreciated.
